My Approach
I approach therapy with deep humility and gratitude. I feel genuinely privileged to hear the stories that people share with me. My practice is rooted in belief that people are the expert of their own life, and that my role is to help co-create the therapy experience. By integrating my formal training, creativity and practical application of theoretical concepts to compliment each person's unique strengths and experiences, you will move towards your goals.
I am able to “hold space”, which means I am able to sit with sadness, grief, anger, guilt, shame or trauma in a way that people feel safe, supported and describe feeling “lighter” after an appointment.
With 20 years of clinical experience I am well versed in CBT, DBT, Narrative therapy, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, coping skill and stress management to name a few approaches. I tend to be informal in my approach and welcome questions regarding theory used during appointments.
Therapy is like a journey through the seasons. The beginning process may feel like the cold, dark, grey Winter. The seeds of your goals are gradually forming roots and getting ready for the work of growth. As you move into the Spring of your therapy, there will be a mix of rainy days, emerging sunshine and new growth appearing. There will be a shift where you begin to feel comfort with the skills and understanding you have developed that may feel like the full bloom of Summer. Finally, you will get to harvest the rewards and abundance of the work in Autumn. You can leave behind the things that are no longer helpful, plant some new seeds for the upcoming year and rest feeling prepared for the next season. Wherever you are on your journey, I will walk with you.
